To or Not To Tuesday: Week 4

What a week!

Traveling through the storm on Saturday to bring Yumi, a Japanese exchange student back from Detroit to spend Thanksgiving week with me.

Moving the day before she arrives so that we’ll have a place to stay. That wasn’t part of the plan, but it turned out to be the reality.

Juggling said move and said company and the actual work deadlines that are popping up.

Oh, and my parents, my siblings, and all siblings’ children (along with a spouse and child of one of those children) will be coming to my “unsettled” house after Thanksgiving dinner.

Still, I found a ride to get Yumi back to Detroit on Sunday (so she can catch her shuttle back to school), and we are managing to have a lovely time amidst a few moving details and the work that can’t be sloughed off until next week.

So for today, it was “To Blog or Not to Blog.” On a couple of levels, but they are all sorting themselves out.

  1. First, the simple matter of today. And though it is late, I’m still getting it out there today. Because this one is one I’ve been thinking about for a while. It was almost my “To or Not To Tuesday” for week 2.
  2. Realistically, that original idea for week 2 was more global than just one day. I wondered, as I have before, about just backing off from blogging. But then, I know what would happen. First, I would miss it. Second, I would get even less writing done then than I do now. Third, it would affect my connections with the blogging community. Those three factors make the answer to the more global question a no-brainer.
  3. This one is somewhere between #1 and #2. It’s November 24, and I was posting every day until the 21st per plan. And then my computer got left behind on the trip to pick up Yumi. More exactly, it got left in my friend’s car. And since getting it back, I’ve been pretty busy with getting settled in at the new place. Not that I’m fully unpacking or anything, but still, some things simply have to be done. So it’s tempting to let the rest of the November challenge alone. But then, I realized that it really is only three days that are out of whack. And since I had already had the glitch with having my posts show up on the wrong days because of having my settings still based on the time in Taiwan, it’s not really that big a deal. In fact, when I hit the publish button, I have 22 posts for the month, and it’s the 24th. So just two behind. Kind of crazy to give up for a matter of two days. Especially when there are some pictures and adventures that Yumi and I have been sharing.
  4. Which brings me to the last issue about blogging. I don’t think the “look” of my blog is all that inviting. But I also know I don’t have the time or the patience to play around with it at this point. And I don’t have any crazy friends (or daughter, hi Kate) who are particularly crazy enough to take on the thankless task of giving my blog a makeover. So for now, that will be the “do not” of this “To or Not To Tuesday” post.

OK, so not much to say about this one, as it appears I have most of this in hand, but as always, comments are still welcome.

How about you? Are you making Thanksgiving dinner? Are you simplifying holiday plans? Any To or Not To questions weighing on our mind?

  1. I think your blog looks great; maybe some different colors would help, but I like it. What theme are you using?

It’s just the two of us for Thanksgiving, so we make things very casual and try and prepare everything ahead of time.

  3. I find your blog easy to read, and that’s my main concern. I get antsy about changing my theme, but given the number of people who read using the Reader and the fact that it hides most of the stuff, I talk myself out of changing it.
